This project proposes a contemporary reinterpretation of an older apartment, emphasizing integrated spaces, functionality, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The main intervention took place in the social area, where the demolition of the wall between the living room and kitchen completely transformed the apartment’s dynamics, creating an open-concept layout that enhances the sense of spaciousness, increases natural
light, and encourages interaction between the environments.
The flooring replacement was an essential part of this renovation. The former laminate flooring was replaced by restored hardwood parquet in the social areas, adding character and warmth, while the kitchen received light porcelain tiles in place of the original patterned ceramic flooring, commonly found in apartments from the 1970s and 1980s. This change reinforces the integration between spaces while still subtly defining their functions.
In the kitchen, the new central island becomes the focal point, serving both as a preparation area and a gathering space for casual meals. The natural stone countertop adds sophistication to the environment, standing out through its monolithic design that highlights the materiality and volumes of the space. Wood-toned cabinetry, combined with light surfaces and a suspended metal structure, brings visual lightness and functionality to the integrated environment.
The living area was designed to convey comfort and personality. Custom millwork organizes electronics, books, and a vinyl record collection, while plants and natural elements bring freshness to the space. The neutral palette is complemented by bold blue accents in the circulation area, creating contrast and identity without compromising the lightness of the composition.
In the bedroom, continuous millwork integrates the headboard, workspace, and wardrobes, optimizing the space in a functional and elegant way. The wood tones and soft green wall reinforce the cozy atmosphere, while the acrylic chair contributes to a sense of visual lightness and spaciousness, allowing natural light and the surrounding elements to take center stage.
The bathrooms were also completely renovated, following the same contemporary and welcoming language. In the guest bathroom, wood applied to both the walls and ceiling creates an intimate and cozy atmosphere. Meanwhile, the elongated master bathroom features a spacious shower area with double showerheads and an integrated bench, evoking the experience of a contemporary spa.
The result is a renovated apartment that preserves original elements of the property while incorporating contemporary, functional, and welcoming solutions for everyday living.
